SAO implemented two Communities for Peace interventions in Middle Shabelle and Hiraan during 2022-2023 alone, with a combined value of USD 529,490. In Somalia’s context, the civilian model linked government capacity, inclusive community security dialogue, early warning, reconciliation and community-led stabilisation to strengthen trust, reduce escalation risks and support a more enabling environment for essential services and humanitarian action.
• Strengthened the capacity of the Hirshabelle Ministry of Internal Security on community security, stabilisation, coordination and community engagement.
• Facilitated dialogue and reconciliation among government, traditional leaders, women, youth and Macawiisley/community defence representatives.
• Supported community-based early-warning, referral and prevention mechanisms addressing violent-extremism risks, local conflict and emerging threats.• Linked local authorities, peace and conflict-management structures and community-led resilience initiatives to strengthen social cohesion, trust and peaceful problem-solving.
