About SAO

Somaliland Agriculture Organization (SAO) is a Somali national non-governmental organisation advancing community-led peacebuilding, prevention of violent extremism, reconciliation, voluntary reintegration, accountable recovery and climate-resilient livelihoods.

Operating principles:

  • Humanity and Impartiality — Needs-based assistance that protects dignity and prioritises the most vulnerable.
  • Conflict Sensitivity and Do No Harm — Analysis of local power, clan, gender and conflict dynamics to avoid worsening tensions.
  • Participation and Local Ownership — Communities co-design priorities, targeting, delivery oversight, feedback and learning.
  • Gender and Social Inclusion — Meaningful participation of women, youth, minority groups and persons with disabilities.
  • Accountability and Safeguarding — Clear entitlements, confidential complaints, PSEA, protection referrals and corrective action.
  • Sustainability and Resilience — Skills, local structures, market linkages, shared assets and transition planning.
